Membership Policy
1. Overview
The Vic Park Collective offers membership to the Collective Shed (the Shed) for individuals and families, providing access to a wide range of tools and equipment.
Membership is required to borrow items from the Shed.
2. Types of Membership
Individual Membership: Grants borrowing privileges to one person.
Family Membership: Grants borrowing privileges to a family (defined as partners, their children and dependents, and anyone living in the same household).
Baston and Co. membership is only available to those with written approval to purchase this membership type.
3. Borrowing Privileges for Minors
Family members between the ages of 14 and 18 may borrow items with permission from a family member who is at least 18 years old.
The adult family member must provide written consent for minors to borrow items and is responsible for ensuring that the minor adheres to all policies and procedures.
4. Membership Registration
To register for membership, individuals and families must complete the membership application form. You may be asked for proof of identity and proof of address.
Membership applications can be completed online or in person at the Shed.
Prior to hiring tools, all Members must:
- create an account with MyTurn
- acknowledge the Membership and Borrowing Policies
- sign the Liability Waiver form
- verify their identity with a valid government-issued photo ID and proof of address
7. Membership Fees
There is a nominal fee for both individual and family memberships, payable annually.
6. Membership Benefits
Members are entitled to borrow items from the Shed’s collection, subject to availability and borrowing policies.
Members may receive notifications about new items, events, and workshops hosted by the Vic Park Collective that relate to the Shed.
7. Membership Renewal
Memberships may be renewed annually.
Members will receive a reminder notification before their membership expires.
Failure to renew membership will result in suspension of borrowing privileges until the membership is renewed.
8. Membership Termination
Members may terminate their membership at any time by notifying the Vic Park Collective in writing. Pro-rata refunds will not be provided.
The Vic Park Collective reserves the right to terminate membership for violation of the policies, misuse of items, or failure to return borrowed items.
9. Privacy
The Vic Park Collective respects the privacy of its members and will protect personal information in accordance with government mandates.
By becoming a member of the Shed, individuals and families agree to abide by all policies and procedures.
Borrowing Policy
1. Overview
The Borrowing Policy outlines the guidelines for borrowing items from the Collective Shed (the Shed). This policy ensures fair access to tools and equipment for all members.
2. Borrowing Duration
Items are due back within 7 days of borrowing.
Items must be returned during opening hours.
3. Borrowing Limits
Individual Members can borrow up to 5 items at a time. Family Members can borrow 8.
Both membership types can have up to 3 items booked in advance.
4. Reservation and Booking
Items can be booked through the online system or by visiting the Shed in person.
Items can be booked up to two months in advance.
Members will receive a confirmation notification for their bookings.
5. Renewal of Items
Items can be renewed online for an additional week, provided they are not booked out by another member.
Renewal requests must be made before the due date.
The Vic Park Collective reserves the right to refuse or limit renewals and will do so based on demand.
6. Late Returns
Members will be notified if items are not returned by the due date and provided options to return it as soon as possible.
Members with overdue items will be unable to borrow additional items until all items are returned.
Returning items on time and in good condition is an important responsibility of a member. Failure to return items on time on multiple occasions will result in membership being suspended.
7. Item Availability
The availability of items is subject to demand. The Vic Park Collective Librarians will strive to maintain and update the inventory regularly.
In the event an item is unavailable due to maintenance or other reasons, members will be notified as soon as possible.
8. Borrowing Process
Members must provided proof of membership when borrowing items.
All items must be checked out through the Shed’s system to ensure accurate tracking (the Vic Park Collective Librarians can assist with this in person)
Members are responsible for inspecting items before borrowing to ensure they are in good condition and the member is confident that they to operate the item in a safe and proper manner.
9. Conditions of Use
Only the member is authorised to use the items borrowed, and strictly for home use.
The member must operate items safely, for their intended use, and in accordance with any operation manual or guidance.
If the item stops working or becomes unusable due to normal wear and tear, the member will not be responsible for rectifying or replacing the item.
The member must agree that the Vic Park Collective is not responsible for any manufacturing defects in quality of workmanship or materials inherent in any borrowed items.
If any borrowed item becomes unsafe to use or otherwise becomes unusable the member must immediately discontinue use of the tool and notify the Vic Park Collective of the issue in writing within two business days.
The member must not tamper with or attempt to repair any such tool that has become unsafe or unusable.
10. Returning Items
Items must be returned to the Shed during open hours.
Members must ensure items are clean and in the same condition as when borrowed, barring normal wear and tear.
Returned items will be inspected by Shed staff to verify condition.
11. Loss, theft or damage of items
All items supplied from the Shed to the member remain the property of the Vic Park Collective. Members are responsible for all items borrowed under their membership.
Members are responsible for the damage to, and loss or theft of, items they have hired.
If requested to by the Vic Park Collective members will have 3 days to pay:
- the book value of an item that, for any reason, is not returned.
- the cost of repairing any damage to an item caused or contributed to by the member.
The Vic Park Collective reserves the right to use appropriate steps to retrieve unreturned items or unpaid fees, including any expenses and legal costs incurred by the Vic Park Collective in enforcing this. The Vic Park Collective also reserves the right to forgive fees due to special circumstances.
